Welcome to a long lost, but storied Tyrone tradition--the Travel Blog. Anne and I head west to the Far East at noon tomorrow for a three-and-one-half week adventure in Japan, with our friends, Nancy and Dan Engel, and Anne's lil' sis', Nancy.
Please, follow us as we circumnavigate Honshu Island, with stops in Tokyo, Nikko, Matsumoto, the Nakasendo Way, Fukushima, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Hijemi, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Naoshima, Takayama, and Kanazawa.
We promise not to dip the rice layer of our sushi into the soy sauce, add wasabi to the soy sauce, eat the pickled ginger WITH the soy sauce, talk too loudly on the subway, or share images from the baths at our ryokans. We pray that our waterproof layers, boots, and umbrellas keep us dry. And, I HOPE that I have time to share some photos and experiences in this blog and that the wi-fi connections comply with my desire to regale you with tales and images of muddy hikes, majestic temples, stunning alpine scenery, charming villages, meticulous gardens, gracious tea ceremonies, ginormous Sumo wrestlers, adventurous and mysterious dining, and touching memorials.
